What the World Cup Reminded Me About Business
The World Cup is over. Congratulations to Spain.
As the cameras followed Lionel Messi after the final whistle, you could see the disappointment. One of the greatest players to ever play the game had given everything he had, reached the biggest stage in the world, and walked away without the result he wanted.
That is competition.
It is also business.
Argentina didn’t reach the final because everything went according to plan. They reached it because they kept finding ways to solve the next problem.
More than once, they fell behind. They faced pressure. There were moments when it looked like their tournament was over. But they refused to go away. They kept competing until the final whistle.
That is tenacity.
Tenacity is not refusing to get knocked down. It is refusing to stay there.
Real estate will test you in much the same way. Buyers will sit on the fence. Sellers will refuse to adjust their price. Negotiations will fall apart. You will lose listings you thought you had and watch opportunities go to someone else.
You do not control every result.
You control your response.
You control whether you make the next call, follow up one more time, improve your approach, and show up again tomorrow.
The market doesn’t care how last week went. Your next opportunity still requires you to be ready.
This week’s assignment is simple:
- Choose one lead or opportunity you were ready to give up on and make one more thoughtful attempt to reconnect.
- Write down one challenge that has been draining your energy, then identify one action you can take in response to it.
- Block three uninterrupted hours for prospecting this week. No distractions and no excuses. Focus only on the next conversation.
Talent matters. Skill matters.Strategy matters. But over a long career, tenacity may matter most. Because every day, you get to make the same choice.
Show up again.
Talk soon,
Kory
