More than just unlocking doors
Every now and then, I’ll hear someone casually say that real estate agents “just drive people around” or “open a few doors.”
I get it. From the outside, that’s what it might look like. A client sees us show up with a smile, maybe in a nice car, unlock a property, and later bring over a gift at closing. Simple, right?
But here’s the truth: most agents wake up every single day unemployed!
There’s no guaranteed cheque waiting. Every client, every deal, every dollar has to be earned from scratch. And the agents who are truly great at what they do aren’t just selling houses. They’re managing complex transactions, protecting their clients’ largest investments, and guiding people through one of the most stressful transitions of their lives.
What most people never see are the fires being put out behind the scenes by you:
- Keeping a deal alive when inspections reveal problems that could scare a buyer off
- Negotiating through multiple rounds of offers and counteroffers until everyone is satisfied
- Dealing with the rude agent who yells and screams and never returns your call
- Solving appraisal issues that could sink the entire transaction
- Managing dozens of calls, emails, and moving parts so deadlines aren’t missed
- Coordinating with lenders, lawyers, inspectors, and contractors who all have their own timelines and demands
- Pulling off last-minute saves when closings threaten to fall apart (and believe me, it happens more often than people think)
Because behind every “simple” transaction is a professional who is negotiating, solving problems, managing stress, and in some cases, performing near-miracles to make sure a client gets across the finish line.
Great agents also make sure their clients actually see the effort. That’s why they update them regularly, even weekly, on what’s happening behind the scenes. It’s part of building trust and making sure clients feel cared for every step of the way.
Great real estate agent doesn’t just unlock doors. They unlock possibilities.
Wishing you a productive week ahead.
