Happiness Isn’t the Finish Line Inbox

A couple of years ago, I was coaching an agent in Miami. He wasn’t struggling, but he wasn’t thriving either. Listings were coming in, deals were closing, but he felt stuck.
He told me he wasn’t proud of how he was working. He was cutting corners, reacting instead of leading, and his days felt out of sync. He wasn’t happy with his own work ethic, and it was wearing on him.
At one point he said, “I’ll be happy once I hit my income goal this year.”
That line stuck with me.
He believed the goal would fix the feeling, that success would somehow make him feel more in control, more motivated, more aligned.
But the more we talked, the more it became clear: He wasn’t stuck because of his results. He was stuck because he’d disconnected from the mindset and habits that had made him successful in the first place.
So I asked him, “What if happiness isn’t the reward? What if it’s the starting point?”
That question didn’t fix everything, but it got him thinking differently. He made a few subtle shifts. He stopped skipping his morning routine. He built in a couple of blocks each week to reconnect with people in his network. He started being a bit more intentional with his time, and a bit less reactive.
And things started to move again. Not overnight, but steadily.
It reminded me of this: Happiness isn’t about avoiding change, it’s about realizing we can change.
And in our line of business, success doesn’t lead to happiness. It starts with it.
Here are 3 ways to reconnect with your best self this week:
    1. Audit your daily habits. Pick one day this week and track how you actually spend your time. Where are you reacting instead of leading? What’s one habit you know would make you feel more in control again?
    2. Protect your non-negotiables. Choose 1 or 2 things that anchor you, whether it’s your morning prep, a midday reset, or time to follow up properly, and commit to doing them no matter how busy the day gets.
    3. Lead your business like someone you’re proud of. Before each day starts, ask yourself: If I were proud of how I worked today, what would that look like? Then line your calendar up accordingly.
You don’t need to feel amazing every day. But the more you bring intention and joy into how you work, the more momentum you’ll build.
Have a focused and fulfilling week ahead,
